Mahasaraswati University, Denpasar Bali, Indonesia – July 5-7, 2018

Rural Research and Planning Group (RRPG) in collaboration with Mahasaraswati University has held the 9th RRPG International Conference and Field study  2018 on 5-7 July 2018 in Mahasaraswati University Campus, Denpasar, Bali. The event was also supported by PERTIDES (Forum Perguruan Tinggi untuk Desa – University Forum for Rural) and Ministry of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Areas, and Transmigration of Indonesia.

The event series were started with The Workshop on Regional Research  Methodology, and Conference Plenary Session I on July 5, 2018. While the Plenary Session II and III,  and parallel discussion were held on July 6, 2018. The Keynote Speech was delivered by Minister of Village, Development of Disadvantaged Areas, and Transmigration of Indonesia, Eko Putro Sandjojo, BSEE., M.BA, which presented the challenges of the rural development in Indonesia and some best practices of rural development models.

Dr. Eric C. Thompson from National University of Singapore delivers presentation about smallholders in Asia in plenary session of the Conference.

The Conference was attended by about 200 participants of RRPG delegations, practitioners, university academic staffs and students, and government officers. The conference was held the 3 plenary sessions with 11 main speakers, and  5 parallel sessions those discuss 14 sub themes of 114 paper presenters. RRPG was also honored with participation from the President of Rural Planning Association of Japan, Dr. Midori Aoyagi that came together with Prof. Satoshi Hoshino as former President of the association.

In this session, the participants of the conference also have declared The Establishment of Asian Forum for Rural Research, Planning, and Development (AFRRPD) that called also as Bali Declaration. The Bali Declaration was signed by 17 participants as representatives of 13 universities, governments, professional associations from 6 Asian countries.

Bali Declaration was announced by Rector of Mahasaraswati University with 17 representatives of 13 universities, governments, professional associations from 6 Asian countries.

The AFFRRPD has goal to promote 5 main activities agenda i.e. (1) Joint cooperation to develop education for rural sustainable development; (2) Research, publication, and development collaboration; (3) Exchange program for rural resources empowerment; (4) Sharing knowledge and experience in rural policy and planning; and (5) Develop innovative approach and entrepreneurship for rural and regional promotion. The Declaration becomes a platform of Rural Research Planning Group  – RRPG  to continue the network as Asian Forum for Rural Research, Planning and Development (AFRRPD). With the new platform, the AFRRPD network becomes more wider and relevant to face the rural change and challenge toward the sustainable development.

In the field visit on July 7, 2018, the participants visited the Cemagi village as tourism based village model in Bali, and Tanah Lot.

Participants were welcomed with traditional music in Cemagi Village while the field visit.
